VOLT CREDIT UNION: Powering Community Impact at Rock the Block
Leading the Charge
This year, Volt Credit Union is leading that effort as the top partner for Rock the Block in the Woodland Heights neighborhood, taking place May 14–16.
And for Marissa Weaver, Director of Community Partnerships, the heartfelt excitement is obvious:
“Volt Credit Union is so excited to be part of Rock the Block this year, and we hope that you come out and join us.”
Meeting Real Needs in the Community
Rock the Block focuses on helping homeowners who need it most—many of whom face physical or financial barriers to maintaining their homes.
As Marissa shared,
“Homeowners that we're helping—a lot of them are elderly or disabled. They just physically can’t do it and maybe don’t have the financial means to hire somebody.”
That’s where volunteers step in.
In just a few hours, teams can help transform dozens of homes—clearing brush, hauling debris, and tackling projects that might otherwise go undone.
“To be able to come out in a few hours and have 50 homes get some help… just that extra lending hand,” she said. “Just taking a few hours can make a huge impact.”
More Than Volunteering—It’s Team Building with Purpose
For Volt Credit Union, Rock the Block is not only about service—it’s also about connection.
“One thing I love about Rock the Block—and really just helping Habitat in general—is it really becomes a team building experience,” Marissa said. “You get to meet other people in the community too.”
Volt’s team will be on-site throughout the event, working alongside other volunteers and residents—not just to complete projects, but to build relationships.
“Our staff has a lot of fun bonding with each other, but also getting to meet other people in the community too.”
It’s this combination of purpose and connection that makes the event especially meaningful for local businesses and organizations looking for a different kind of team-building opportunity.
A Legacy of Serving the Community
Volt Credit Union’s commitment to Rock the Block reflects a long-standing mission of service.
“Volt Credit Union was started 90 years ago… and over time we’ve become a community-based credit union. We’re basically focused on helping people just like you—powering your potential.”
That mission aligns naturally with Habitat’s work—and with the goals of Rock the Block.
“This project really aligns well because we’re looking at homeowners who just need that little bit extra support,” Marissa explained.
In addition to contributing $5,000 through a Cornerstone Foundation grant, Volt has also taken a hands-on approach—assembling buckets of essential tools that will be distributed to homeowners, giving them the ability to maintain their homes long after the event ends.
Join Volt and Make an Impact
Rock the Block takes place May 14–16, with volunteers working from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. each day. Individuals and teams can sign up for one day or all three.
Whether you’re looking to give back, connect with your community, or participate in a meaningful team-building experience, this is your opportunity to make a real difference.
As Marissa put it, sometimes all it takes is a few hours.
And those few hours can change everything.
When people shop, donate or volunteer to your local Habitat for Humanity it helps them build, repair and revitalize homes and our community.
