Russell Cellular Volunteers Support Habitat Springfield
Investing in Neighbors Through Service
Habitat for Humanity Springfield’s recent Rock the Block neighborhood revitalization event brought volunteers, neighbors, and community partners together for a day focused on restoring homes, improving outdoor spaces, and strengthening neighborhoods across Springfield.
Throughout the day, volunteers from RC Cares and Russell Cellular cleared overgrown fences, hauled debris, trimmed brush, and helped revitalize yards for local homeowners. While the physical work made an immediate impact, the event also created opportunities for connection, encouragement, and community support that extended far beyond landscaping and cleanup projects.
“One of those lives that gets changed changes our own.”
That mindset was visible throughout the day as volunteers worked side-by-side with homeowners, shared stories, and invested their time directly into the community. For many involved, Rock the Block became more than a volunteer opportunity — it became a reminder of how meaningful service can strengthen both neighborhoods and the people serving within them.
“When we get out and we put our hands and feet to work — when we’re physically investing in someone’s life — lives get changed.”
Habitat Springfield’s Rock the Block initiative helps homeowners maintain safe, welcoming properties while bringing businesses, volunteers, churches, and residents together to revitalize neighborhoods one block at a time. The event reflects Habitat’s broader mission of building strength, stability, self-reliance, and shelter throughout the Ozarks.
A Partnership Rooted in Giving Back
RC Cares and Russell Cellular have continued partnering with Habitat Springfield because they believe giving back should be an ongoing commitment rather than a one-time effort.
The organization’s volunteers consistently invest not only resources, but also time, energy, and heart into serving local families and neighborhoods. Their continued involvement in projects like Rock the Block reflects a culture centered around leadership, service, and meaningful community engagement.
“So yeah, we’re going into the community to give,” Wallace said.
“But I also believe that we go into the community to grow ourselves and make volunteering and giving back part of our everyday life.”
That commitment could be seen throughout the event as volunteers tackled projects many homeowners could not easily manage on their own. Teams worked together clearing storm damage, cutting back overgrowth, and restoring outdoor spaces that had become difficult to maintain.
By continuing to show up year after year, RC Cares and Russell Cellular have become valued partners in Habitat Springfield’s neighborhood revitalization efforts. Their involvement helps create lasting impact not only through physical improvements, but also through the relationships and encouragement built alongside homeowners and neighbors.
Why Neighborhood Revitalization Matters
Programs like Rock the Block help preserve more than homes — they help preserve dignity, stability, and hope for families throughout the community.
For many homeowners, projects like fence repairs, overgrown yards, storm cleanup, and exterior maintenance can quickly become overwhelming due to financial limitations, physical challenges, or unexpected hardships. Volunteer groups like RC Cares and Russell Cellular help bridge that gap by providing practical assistance and encouragement that allows homeowners to remain safe and stable in the homes they love.
“I believe it’s something that we’re supposed to do with our life. We’re supposed to give back and make a difference”
The impact of neighborhood revitalization extends far beyond curb appeal. Stronger neighborhoods create safer communities, deeper relationships, and renewed pride among residents. When volunteers invest their time directly into local neighborhoods, they help create environments where families can thrive and communities can grow stronger together.
Habitat for Humanity Springfield continues partnering with businesses, volunteers, donors, and community organizations to build, repair, and revitalize homes throughout the Ozarks. Every volunteer hour, donation, sponsorship, and partnership helps create lasting change for local families.
