The Shotts’ Habitat Story
James and Christine are the loving parents of eight children, ranging in age from 3 to 12.
The Shotts’ Habitat story began a few years ago. They were spending $795 on rent for a three-bedroom home that was breezy, drafty and too small for their family of 10. “Our electric bill was over $500 a month. We couldn’t keep warm. Christmas there was horrible,” James recalls. They decided to apply for the Habitat for Humanity homebuying program. They were accepted and started their Sweat Equity right away.
After completing 350 hours of Sweat Equity, the Shotts moved into their home just in time for the holidays in 2018. Thanks to Habitat for Humanity’s homebuying program, the Shotts spent an amazing first Christmas in their new home. James and Christine are looking forward to Christmas this year saying, “We aren’t struggling as much now, we can actually afford it.”
James and Christine aren’t the only ones excited about the upcoming holiday. Their children are already thinking of their favorite things about Christmas and they’re preparing their Christmas lists.
Ethan (12): “I got a lot of presents, I can’t even remember!”
Dakota (11): “I got candy from Santa and a boom box.”
Damien (10): “I got Transformers. This year I want a phone or Nintendo Switch.”
Heidi (8): “We decorated the tree and there was cocoa when we opened presents.”
Tyler (7): “I got a blue bike and I saw one reindeer in the back yard!”
Zack (6): “Our tree was spikey and green. It was taller than my whole body!”
Dominik (5): “I heard Santa say Ho, Ho, Ho.”
