100 volunteers from the faith community will join Thrivent Financial & Habitat for Humanity to complete home repair projects, all part of Neighborhood Revitalization
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Volunteers from six area churches will join Thrivent Financial, Habitat for Humanity of Springfield, MO (HFHS) and residents of Woodland Heights to “Rock The Block”, a bi-annual event focused on completing home repairs alongside homeowners needing assistance in completing the repairs and clean-ups. The fifth Rock the Block will kick-off on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at 8:30 a.m. with a volunteer rally at Woodland Heights Presbyterian Church, 722 W. Atlantic, Springfield, MO 65803.
During Rock the Block, volunteers will complete 22 home preservation and repair projects in Woodland Heights as part of Habitat’s ongoing Neighborhood Revitalization efforts. Projects include painting and yard clean-ups funded by the Thrivent Builds Repairs program which brings financial, volunteer and advocacy resources to the mission of Habitat for Humanity to assist with home builds and repairs at home and worldwide.
“Helping to provide decent, affordable homes through repairs is one of the focus areas of revitalization for Woodland Heights residents,” said Larry Peterson, executive director for HFHS. “We are proud to see the faith community and Thrivent join our commitment to Woodland Heights and we invite other businesses and organizations to lend a hand, too!”
Neighborhood Revitalization is Habitat for Humanity’s newest program that strives to improve the quality of life of a single neighborhood by working with area businesses, government, residents, and other nonprofits who share a vision of revitalization. Woodland Height’s focus areas of revitalization include beautification, community, housing, health and safety.
“It is inspiring to join the Neighborhood Revitalization effort to help improve the quality of life of Woodland Height’s residents,” said Vicki Hicks, Community Engagement Leader with Thrivent. “Sharing our time and talents to live generously and strengthen our community is a great way to get to know our neighbors and make a real difference.”
Thrivent remains the largest non-governmental supporter of Habitat for Humanity International.
