The Home Preservation and Repair Programs help low-income homeowners restore and maintain their homes. Habitat partners with homeowners to alleviate critical health and safety issues and complete needed home improvement projects. Programs include A Brush with Kindness, Critical Home Repair, and Creating Healthy Homes.
How it Works
Habitat is currently accepting applicants for exterior repair and preservation work. These projects could include but are not limited to the repair, replacement, or upgrade of:
- Windows and Exterior Doors
- Steps, Ramps, Porches, Decks and Retaining Walls
- Walkways and Driveways
- Brush and trash removal
Habitat serves as the general contractor and may complete repair projects in-house using staff and volunteers or hire subcontractors, depending on the nature of the work.
Residents accepted into the program receive an affordable loan for the cost of repairs. The monthly payment and loan terms will be determined by income and affordability. For projects under $3,000, we offer a simple sliding-scale discount. Projects of $3,000 or more will be secured by a lien, and a portion of the loan amount will be deferred at 0% interest until sale of the property to keep monthly payments affordable.
Homeowners are not required to take out a loan with Habitat if they have other sources of financing. In addition, smaller projects, particularly those which utilize volunteers, may be offered at low to no cost to homeowners.
