“Neighborhood revitalization has initiated visible changes in Woodland Heights.
Even neighbors who moved away and came back to visit comment that “things are looking a lot better.” It was a slow start and took us all a little time to find our rhythm of working together to experience and understand the intent of the NR program. As a neighborhood association, we didn’t know what to expect and what would be required. But the interest in our quality of life that Habitat NR demonstrated to our little community did in fact plant seeds that have begun to blossom.
We are caring more and doing more to engage and be involved with our neighbors and feel more committed to our sense of place. We’ve learned that NR is not accomplished overnight. Habitat’s NR team has been consistent and available. They have provided support and encouragement as well as being an example of pulling volunteers together to get a project done. There is a tangible momentum now that is exciting to feel and see. We found our rhythm of working together. We have had wonderful experiences together cleaning, creating, and caring for this neighborhood. And many of us now understand how intentions can bring positive outcomes even when it requires dumpsters and paint brushes.
Thank you, Habitat Springfield, for choosing Woodland Heights as your first target neighborhood for NR.“
