MISTY’S HABITAT STORY:
Misty is a single mother of five children, four boys and a girl. “I can’t afford a home with enough room… so we’re living with a friend until I can find a house I can afford.”
When she first applied for Habitat’s homebuying program, Misty and her family were staying with a friend while she was looking for an affordable and safe place to live. Nine people were living in a cramped three-bedroom home.
Misty was hard at work completing her RN degree, attending college classes Monday – Thursday. “It’s my dream to earn my RN degree. I have 25 credit hours to go until it’s official!” She balanced work, school, and being a single mother of five.
After a year spent completing 250 hours of sweat-equity building her home and volunteering in the ReStore, Misty was able to purchase her new Habitat for Humanity home in 2015. Thanks to her hard work and dedication, Misty’s children celebrated their fourth Christmas in their own home this year.
