Smoke, Vape & Tobacco-Free Campus Policy

Purpose
Habitat for Humanity of Springfield, Missouri is committed to providing a safe, healthy, and welcoming environment for staff, volunteers, customers, partners, and visitors. In support of public health and community well-being, our campus is designated as Smoke, Vape & Tobacco-Free.
Policy Statement
The use of tobacco products, electronic cigarettes, vaping devices, or any product that produces smoke or vapor is not permitted anywhere on campus property.
This policy applies to all indoor and outdoor areas, including but not limited to:
- Buildings and entrances
- Parking lots and drive lanes
- Sidewalks and outdoor gathering areas
- Vehicles while on campus property
Products Covered
This policy includes, but is not limited to:
- Cigarettes, cigars, pipes
- E-cigarettes, vapes, vape pens, and similar devices
- Smokeless tobacco (chew, dip, snuff)
- Any product that emits smoke, vapor, or aerosol
Who the Policy Applies To
This policy applies to everyone on campus, including:
- Employees
- Volunteers
- Customers
- Vendors and contractors
- Visitors and guests
Legal Context
This campus policy is more comprehensive than minimum legal requirements and is implemented under our rights as a property owner.
It aligns with and supports:
- Springfield Smokefree Air Act (Springfield City Ordinance No. 5260), which restricts smoking in enclosed public places and workplaces.
- Missouri Clean Indoor Air Law (Missouri Revised Statutes §§ 191.765–191.777), which regulates smoking in public places and workplaces statewide.
Compliance & Enforcement
We rely on respectful, voluntary compliance to uphold this policy.
- Individuals observed using tobacco or vaping products may be politely reminded of the policy.
- Continued noncompliance may result in being asked to leave the property.
- This policy is not intended to shame or penalize, but to promote a healthier environment for all.
Signage
Smoke, Vape & Tobacco-Free Campus signage is posted throughout the property to ensure clear notice and awareness of this policy.
