Due to growing concerns about COVID-19, we are canceling all volunteer shifts through April 30th.
We have a couple of different experiences available for those interested in volunteering with Habitat for Humanity Springfield. If you are signing up to volunteer for just yourself, please use follow the “individuals” link below to sign up directly for a volunteer shift. For step-by-step instructions for how to sign up online, please download our Online Sign Up Guide. If you are wanting to bring a group to volunteer, the process is different. Because of this, the process is fully outlined on the groups page, which can be found by clicking the “groups, businesses, and organizations” link below.
What will I be doing as a volunteer?
- ReStore Volunteers: As a volunteer in the ReStore, you will be helping with the day-to-day operations at our Springfield Habitat ReStore. The ReStore is located at 2410 S. Scenic Ave. There is a lot to do at the ReStore. For example, volunteers may be asked to assist with donation unloading, intake, and organizing; helping customers on the sales floor; stocking the sales floor; and/or writing sales tickets for customers. As a result, our ReStore volunteering offers the widest range of availability and can accommodate volunteers of all types.
- Construction Site Volunteers: Construction site volunteers will be working with our construction crew at new home builds or a home repair project. Previous construction skills are not necessary, because we’ll teach you everything you need to know. During a shift, there are a variety of things you may be doing. The stage of the new build or scope of the repair project will determine the daily tasks for volunteers. Weather can affect many construction projects because they are outside. Therefore, project details may change or have to be cancelled on short notice.
Why Volunteer with Habitat for Humanity?
Whether you volunteer for one day or many, you will be helping Habitat serve low-income families who are either in need of an affordable home, or who own their homes but are unable to afford critical repairs. Habitat is a volunteer-driven organization serving families and communities in the Ozarks. Whether you are helping our ReStore staff obtain funding to support our work or working alongside our dedicated construction team to complete the work, your service is greatly needed. As a result, we couldn’t do our work without your help.
With Habitat for Humanity, you have the opportunity to build and repair homes in your community and revitalize entire neighborhoods. Because of the help of people like you, our neighbors will know the safety of a home. Through the transformation of our neighborhoods, families achieve the strength, stability and independence they need to build a better life. Working together, side by side, united, we can ensure everyone has a decent place to live. Join us to eliminate barriers to a better, healthier, more financially stable life.
