Habitat for Humanity of Springfield, Missouri is built on the foundation of bringing people together with the express purpose of building homes, communities and hope. It’s clear that now is the time to bring people together to support one another, even though we are apart.
For those with stable housing, this time has been spent figuring out the logistics of working remotely, transitioning children to learning at home, avoiding crowds and preparing meals, but for the families and individuals served by Habitat for Humanity, that task isn’t as easy.
The pandemics’ effect on housing will be significant and lasting.
Due to construction delays, we know that the 7 partner home buyers who are currently waiting on a home to be built are getting more anxious every day. The 35 homeowners who are waiting on necessary home repairs are having to shelter in place in unsafe conditions.
Based on history, it’s likely that the negative economic effects of this crisis will be disproportionately borne by low-income individuals. These families will be hit the hardest. They always are.
Every day we are continuing to make affordable homeownership a reality for families. We’re adapting our programming for our current partners, and we’re preparing to meet the increased need for affordable housing we’re likely to see.
In order to fulfill our mission, we need your help. Your one-time or monthly gift will directly support:
- 2 homes under construction for Bridget and Kaley whose builds are currently delayed
- 3 home repairs that are currently on pause for safety concerns
- Our plan to build five more homes and to complete 100+ home repairs
A gift of any size will make a difference.
In Partnership,
Abby Glenn

P.S. There are a few key provisions of the new CARES (Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security) Act that are designed to support charitable gifts. The new law allows all taxpayers to take a charitable deduction of up to $300, even if you do not itemize. You might think that this is a small amount and would not make a difference. But, what if all our donors gave “just” $300? Such support would have a huge impact on those we serve. To make a donation, please call me at 417-829-4001 x 109 or donate online here.
You can find additional information about how the CARES Act can increase your opportunity to give on our website at habitatspringfieldmo.org/COVID19
