“I need a Habitat home because I didn’t set out to be a single parent, but to be the very best parent I can be!” – Nickita, Habitat Homeowner since 2016.
Nickita’s Habitat Story:
Nickita applied to be a Habitat Homeowner in July 2014. She was stuck in a cycle of paying rent and wanted to provide a better home for her three children. “My children are my ultimate prize and my absolute reason for being. It’s my dream to own a home for my children that we can call ‘ours’ – a safe, secure environment that is all ours.”
She thought owning a home as a single mother would be impossible, but she found that through Habitat for Humanity, and her faith, owning a home can be a reality with an affordable monthly mortgage.
“Being a single mother can be discouraging at times, but having faith in God has carried me through the hard times. Knowing that Habitat is a Christian housing ministry is all the more fulfilling and appreciated. By partnering with Habitat I can make my dream of homeownership come true.” (Jeremiah 29: 11-13)
After a year spent completing 250 hours of sweat-equity building her home and volunteering in the ReStore, Nickita was able to purchase her new Habitat for Humanity home in 2016. Thank s to her hard work and dedication, Nickita’s children will celebrate their third Christmas in their own home this year.
