Hearts & Hammers:
We are coming up on one of our favorite events of the year- Hearts and Hammers!
We have seen firsthand how affordable housing can play a key role in impacting education, health and financial opportunities for the better. Affordable housing is something we all need, but owning a home is out of reach for many.
First, in Missouri, one out of 10 households spends more than 50% of their income on housing.
Secondly, in Springfield, MO, more than 10,000 renter households are in the “extremely low income” range. This means that these households make less than, or equal to 30% of the area median income (AMI).
You may ask, what role is Habitat playing in solving these problems? That’s what our Hearts and Hammers event is all about. During this event, we will shine a light on our past, current, and future efforts in making housing more affordable for our neighbors. We know that we could not do the work that we do without support from local donors, volunteers, and advocates. We would love for you to join us in honoring those who help make our vision for affordable housing in the Ozarks possible.
Hearts & Hammers Luncheon Details:
The Hearts and Hammers luncheon will consist of an hour long program showing the great work that Habitat for Humanity does in the Ozarks. You will learn how Habitat is joining a growing list of partners who are coming together to build a place where everyone has a safe and affordable place to call home.
Attendees will learn what we are doing and will hear stories from:
- Habitat Home Owners,
- partners of our home repair program,
- local leaders,
- and residents of Woodland Heights, which is our Neighborhood Revitalization partner.
Francine Pratt, Director of Prosper Springfield, will be the MC of the event, and will guide our audience, sharing stories of how local establishments, like Habitat, are working together to help move people to prosperity.
The luncheon will wrap up with a presentation of the 2019 Hearts & Hammers honorees, long time donors, patrons, and volunteers of Habitat for Humanity.
